Emergency Department Education Materials
The National Asthma Education and Prevention Program recommends that clinicians, before discharging patients from the emergency department (ED), provide them with:
- Necessary medications and education on how to use them;
- A referral for a follow-up appointment; and
- Instructions in an ED asthma discharge plan for recognizing and managing relapse of the exacerbation or recurrence of airflow obstuction.
The Utah Asthma Task Force has developed asthma education materials to help an ED meet the needs of a patient. These materials are free to use but please let the Asthma Program (asthma@utah.gov) know if you use them.
