About 8.8% of students or approximately 53,000 school-aged children in Utah have asthma.

  • On average, each school has about 47 students with asthma.
    • Smaller schools with only 50 students will have 3-4 students with asthma.
    • Larger schools with around 1,000 will have about 88 students with asthma.

Although schools may not be aware of all students with asthma, statistically most schools contain at least some students with asthma.

Students with asthma should have an asthma action plan and self- administration form on file at school.
