My name is MaryAnn Gerber. I was diagnosed with stage III melanoma at age 24. I was a sporadic user of tanning beds. I have no family history of skin cancer in my family and yet was diagnosed at this young age because of my use of a tanning bed. I had to go through two surgeries to clear all of the melanoma as well as remove all the lymph nodes out of the left side of my neck. After each surgery I was stuck in my bed for over a month to try and heal. I now have a six inch scar on the left side of my face, as well as three more scars running horizontal on my neck. As a member of the UCAN skin cancer committee we try to educate the public in the dangers of tanning beds and how to protect their skin. We are available to come into schools, business' and social gatherings to give out this helpful information. Please contact us anytime for information. Thank you!
