In January 2008, the Utah Department of Health began collecting annual data from all licensed
hospitals on the number of healthcare workers who were vaccinated for seasonal influenza.
Reports were due January 31st of the reporting year. Data were entered into a secure web site
that employee health and/or infection preventionists had access to.
To determine hospital and state specific influenza vaccination rates, data were collected on the
number of healthcare workers at each licensed hospital in Utah, and the number of those
health‐care workers that were vaccinated for influenza. Data were collected for the seasonal
influenza vaccine during the 2008‐2009 influenza season, and for the seasonal and 2009
Pandemic Influenza A (H1N1) vaccines in the 2009‐2010 influenza season. Vaccination rates
were calculated by dividing the number of health‐care workers vaccinated by the total number
of health‐care workers.
