Catheter-associated Urinary Tract Infection (CAUTI)
Prevention Collaborative

The Long-term Care Facility (LTCF) Catheter-associated Urinary Tract Infection (CAUTI) Prevention Collaborative is a program funded by the Affordable Care Act (ACA) through July of 2012.

The goals of the Utah LTCF CAUTI Prevention Collaborative include:

  • A statewide reduction in urinary tract catheter usage.
  • A statewide reduction in catheter associated urinary tract infections.
  • Appropriate urinary catheter usage.
These goals will be achieved through consultation and education of LTCFs staff on policy and best practices associated with urinary catheters, obtaining and interpreting surveillance data and making recommendations to implement improvements as needed. Several LTCFs throughout the state participate with the Utah Department of Health to assist with this important healthcare associated infection prevention effort.
