Services Available for Utah Medicaid Applicants with Special Needs, such as Interpretive Services [Los Folletos en Español]

Applying for Medicaid

The Department of Health, Bureau of Eligibility Services, offers additional assistance to people applying for Medicaid who have special needs.  Language services are available for people who have difficulty reading, writing and speaking English.   Also, a Medicaid application may be accepted by telephone or mail when a person cannot travel to a site where applications are usually processed, such as a Medicaid Eligibility Office or an outreach site in a hospital.

Interpreters for Medical Services

Does someone you know need an interpreter when seeking medical services?  Interpretive (translation) services during a medical appointment are free for Medicaid clients.   For people enrolled in a Managed Care Plan (MCP), the MCP is responsible for providing the interpreter.  Utah Medicaid pays for an interpreter for clients who are not enrolled in a MCP.  The free translation service is available statewide.

Please request the interpretive service as much in advance as possible!  Please notify the interpreter immediately if the medical appointment is changed or canceled!
