| Newborn screening is a state mandated practice that helps save the lives of babies in Utah. For specific information, follow the links below or contact the Newborn Screening Program.
This site details the Utah law that requires all newborns to have
newborn screening, except in the case where parents object on the grounds that they are members of a specified, well-recognized religious organization whose teachings are contrary to the required tests. In such a case parents are required to fill out a denial form stating the religion they are a part of and that they understand the consequences of refusing the required testing.
This site details the definitions, actions, and responsibilities in the newborn screening
process, as well as criteria for an appropriate specimen.
