Decrease TV time:

Physical Ed in the Schools:

Increase Fruits/Veggies:

PILOT in office dietitian using advanced practice nutrition students (Julie Metos supplies)

Educate MDs on what teaching methods work to motivate or to gradually improve eating and PA**

 

Decrease soda:

Nothing

 

Community Campaigns:

Media needs to educate parents on the problem and what to do**

 

Provider Specific Responses:

Ø    Medical schools train on healthy lifestyles and how to be comfortable discussing with patients

Ø    Partner to write grant applications/AAP – CATCH funds?

Ø    Train MDs about WHAT to say to parents about their child’s weight

Ø    Campus partners to educate potential parents

Ø    Group counseling vs. 1-1

Ø    Train support staff in clinic to do BMI’s and have done when MD sees patient (easily accessible BMI wheel in clinic) AND educate MDs on value of BMI**

Ø    Make discussion of weight, PA, healthy lifestyle a standard of care**

Ø    Develop a data collection system (similar to a registry??)

Ø    Need insurance reimbursement for weight-related visits, referral to RD, AND need good referral sources for education and intervention**

Ø    Use UMA to get all docs involved

Ø    Have mypyramid.gov in the waiting room for kids/families to use while waiting

Ø    Pay for performance/incentives for addressing

Ø    EMRs need to be set up to give data as needed

Ø    HEDIS for weight**

Ø    Need community based, inexpensive programs – USU extensions?
